pre-arena check/in stable:
[ ] is horse groomed appropriately
[ ] mess in hall swept
[ ] saddle with correct pads, saddle pad secured
[ ] saddle in correct location on horse's back
[ ] girth tightened somewhat (i.e. with three holes available on mounting/elastic side)
[ ] stirrup safety straight across
[ ] bridle on and affixed properly (esp throat latches too tight)
[ ] stirrups EVEN and adjusted to length of rider's arm
[ ] boots, martingales etc. as required
also check rider
[ ] appropriate footwear
[ ] helmet on/appropriate fit
[ ] crop if required
[ ] gloves if required
[ ] half chaps/tall boots as required

instructor double checks all the above and tightens girth for riding, and finetunes stirrup length
