Musical Hooves

i believe that music can improve and enhance a horse's movement and the rider's rhythm! two of the ponies i use for lessons are easier to keep going on the lunge line at a trot when the student's mom plays music!

i believe that music affects our physiology. i know that slow music slows my heartbeat and breathing rate. feels like it does the same for blood pressure. meanwhile faster music speeds up these same functions.

i also know from cold arena rides with a music system blaring that riding to music increases your endurance and feelings of well-being. Yay endorphins! I read in the newsletter that studies show exercising to music improves endurance by 15% and improves the "feeling states" so, people derive much greater pleasure from exercise. music filters out background noises so that you and your horse can concentrate better.

we agree that music can be used to treat patients with stress-related illnesses to stimulate the brain and relax the body right?

we must also acknowledge that music affects both sides of our brain, so whether we are a left-brain logical thinker or a right-brain artistic thinker, music helps us ride better.
